Under warm spring skies at Bath Racecourse on Wednesday 13th May 2026, apprentice jockey James Glennon enjoyed a career-defining moment as he guided Nordic Glory to an impressive victory in the evening’s competitive 5f handicap. In a race packed with early pace and pressure, the young rider kept his cool aboard the experienced seven-year-old before delivering a perfectly timed challenge in the closing stages.
Breaking smartly from the stalls, several rivals battled for the lead during the opening furlongs, while Glennon settled Nordic Glory just off the pace. As the field thundered downhill towards the final furlong, the apprentice began to angle his mount into clear running, showing patience beyond his years. Once asked for an effort, Nordic Glory responded brilliantly, quickening strongly to reel in the front runners and power home to score by a length.
The victory was a particularly satisfying one for trainer Michael Attwater, whose stable has long been associated with improving sprinters at Bath. Nordic Glory, sent off at 12/1, relished the fast conditions and demonstrated the battling qualities that have made him a consistent performer on the turf circuit.
For Glennon, however, the afternoon belonged entirely to him. Still building his reputation in the weighing room, the apprentice produced a ride full of confidence, judgement and maturity. Crossing the line in front sparked clear emotion from the young jockey, who punched the air in celebration after recording the first win of his career so far.
Bath’s enthusiastic crowd responded warmly to the performance, recognising both the horse’s determination and the rider’s growing talent. With momentum now firmly on his side, James Glennon’s success aboard Nordic Glory could well prove to be an important stepping stone in what looks an increasingly promising racing career.
We look forward to seeing what the rest of the season here at Bath Racecourse has in store for both James Glennon and Nordic Glory.
